5 potential Juan Soto trade packages

There have been a lot of trades throughout the history of Major League Baseball. I don’t have an exact number, but take my word that there have been a lot.

With that being said, we may be on the verge of seeing the biggest blockbuster in the history of the sport.

Juan Soto is already considered to be one of the best players in the game. He owns a career OPS+ of 160. He gets on base nearly 43 percent of the time. His 162-game average is 34 home runs and 104 RBI.

Oh, and he’s only 23 years old…..

…. and he’s available for trade.

This past weekend, Ken Rosenthal reported that Soto turned down a historic contract offer from the Nationals, opening up potential trade discussions with other teams.

Soto is under contract through the end of the 2024 season. The Nationals aren’t in any rush to trade him. With that being said, it doesn’t look like Soto’s future will be in D.C. If that’s the case, the smart move would be to trade him for the greatest package ever assembled as opposed to letting him walk for nothing.

With Soto having three postseason runs in him before hitting free agency, his value is the highest it’ll ever be. The Nationals will still get a haul if they trade him next year, but having a player of Soto’s caliber available for three playoff runs is unprecedented.

So, what would it take to acquire a player like Soto? Nobody really knows. Jon Heyman provided us with somewhat of an idea.

Early unconfirmed speculation is that the Nats would request a team’s top four prospects and/or young major leaguers and perhaps a willingness to take Patrick Corbin’s bloated contract. With this kind of player, almost anything in the ask should be considered fair game.

Let’s make this article fun. Let’s say the Dodgers are interested in acquiring Soto and pulling off the historic trade. What would a package look like?

Well, coming up with just one package was far too difficult. That’s why I went ahead and put together five potential packages the Dodgers could put together to acquire a talent that has been compared to Ted Williams.
