While we wait for more big moves from the Dodgers, they made a smaller one on Wednesday that is pretty notable.
According to reports, they signed Daniel Hudson to a minor league contract. Hudson will earn $2 million if he makes the team and up to $2 million more in performance bonuses.
This is a great move, as I thought we had seen the last of Hudson. After suffering another devastating injury last year, I honestly thought he was going to retire and call it a career. Instead, it looks like he wants to give it one more shot.
Hudson pitched three game for the Dodgers last season. He tossed three scoreless innings and struck out five. After missing over a year with an ACL injury, Hudson had fully recovered and was ready to be a weapon in LA’s bullpen. Unfortunately, he suffered an MCL sprain in his other knee, ending his year. He tried to make it back for the end of the season, but he just ran out of time.
Since signing with LA in 2022, Hudson has appeared in 28 games. He owns a 1.98 ERA, 2.14 FIP, 0.99 WHIP and 211 ERA+. He has 35 strikeouts in 27.1 innings. When he’s been on the mound, he’s been arguably LA’s best bullpen piece. Issue is we’ve barely seen him.
This is a great signing by the Dodgers. Since it’s only a minor league deal, he doesn’t count towards the 40-man roster right now. We’ll get a good look at him in spring training and will see if he’s still got it. If he’s able to stay healthy and post great numbers, the Dodgers will add him to the roster for a very affordable $2 million.
Hopefully Hudson is fully healthy and is able to contribute in 2024. I can’t imagine going through two lengthy injuries, especially at his age. Despite winning a World Series and having millions in the bank, this just shows how badly he wants to be back on that mound.

I love the chance of Hudson coming back. He was great for us last year and has just caught some bad breaks with injury luck.
