Gavin Stone barely threw his best pitch.
His changeup was thrown only 15 percent of the time on Friday night. Entering the game, Stone had thrown his changeup 41%, 31%, 23% and 21% of the time in 2024. It’s actually gone down with every start he’s made.
Overall, Stone had only 2 strikeouts on the night and generated only four swing-and-misses. You hear these numbers and you’d likely think he had a brutal outing, right? Well, that’s the beauty of baseball.
Despite all that, Friday night was arguably the best of Stone’s young career.
