The Dodgers currently have the best record in baseball. That doesn’t mean I’m not concerned with the state of the team.
Despite a great start to the season, it’s come at a costly price. Entering Wednesday, the Dodgers’ bullpen has been used more than any other bullpen. They lead all of baseball in innings pitched with 157. They have been asked to log a lot of outs.
Dodgers starters have logged a total of 162 innings. That ranks LAST in all of baseball. Think about this for a second. The starting rotation, whose job is to give you AT LEAST five innings on any given start, has basically thrown the same amount of innings as the bullpen.
That shouldn’t be the case!
Bullpen arms are being overworked. Kirby Yates is tied for first in all of baseball with 19 appearances. You want to know who he’s tied with? Fellow teammate Alex Vesia.
Luis Garcia is tied for second with 18 appearances. You want to know who he’s tied with? Fellow teammate Tanner Scott.
Anthony Banda is right behind them in third place with 17 appearances.
This is not sustainable.
