After the injury to Gavin Lux, the Dodgers’ 26-man roster seems pretty set in stone, at least for position players.
Assuming 13 position players crack the Opening Day roster, there are 11 who I can chalk up as guarantees. Based on the high praise he’s receiving Jason Heyward appears to be a lock as well, but he still needs to be added to the 40-man roster.
If you add Heyward, that gives us 12. If I were to guess, that final spot will go to outfielder James Outman. Some other potential names in the running are Michael Busch and Yonny Hernandez, if the Dodgers choose to prioritize an infielder over an outfielder. They shouldn’t, and that final roster spot should be Outman’s.
Okay, great. James Outman has earned the final spot on the Dodgers’ roster. He’s a great depth piece to have on the bench.
Wrong.
Although Outman will likely be earning the final roster spot, he should be seeing consistent at bats in the Dodgers’ lineup and should be a starter.
