The Dodgers James Outman and Max Muncy defeated the Chicago Cubs on Saturday.
Here are three takeaways from the game.
Just give James Outman the Rookie of the Year now
Unfortunately we can’t do that, but the 25-year-old has emerged as the frontrunner in the National League. Not only that, he’s already making an MVP campaign.
I know, I know. Slow down, Blake. It’s just hard not to get overly excited about Outman. Everyone in the Twitter groupchat certainly knows that.
Outman entered the season with a lot of hype surrounding him. He dominated during his brief stint in the majors last season. He dominated in the minors and he dominated this spring. The fact that he’s managed to EXCEED our expectations is just insane to me.
He had quite the performance on Saturday, as he went 4-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI. His incredible series just continues, as this is his second multi-homer game since Thursday. Just a few days ago, Outman hit two homers, including a go-ahead grand slam in the ninth inning.
His seven home runs in March/April are the most in Dodgers history by a rookie. His seven homers are also the most in a month by a rookie since Will Smith hit eight back in August of 2019. If he keeps this up, he’ll be breaking that number.
Remember earlier when I mentioned that Outman is the frontrunner to win NL Rookie of the Year? Here’s where he ranks among ALL rookies across baseball.
7 Home Runs (1st)
19 RBI (1st)
14 R (1st)
.314 AVG (1st)
.407 OBP (1st)
.714 SLG (1st)
1.121 OPS (1st)
50 total bases (1st)
Not bad.
