Riding a four-game losing streak, the Dodgers were desperate for a win.

Who better to send to the mound than the greatest of all time?

Clayton Kershaw…. what else is there to say?

I can’t say it was a vintage performance anymore because we’re still getting these kind of starts on a week-to-week basis. Yet again, Clayton Kershaw had a dominant start for the Dodgers.

With an overworked bullpen these last few games, the Dodgers were in desperate need of Kershaw to eat some innings. I think seven scoreless will do just fine.

The 16-year-veteran tossed seven scoreless innings, striking out nine while holding this red-hot Reds offense in check. He did allow seven baserunners, but the Reds never really were threatening at any point.

Their only threat came in the sixth inning when the Reds had runners on the corners with nobody out. It looked like Cincy was going to tack on at least a run, especially with Elly De La Cruz stepping into the box. Like he’s done so many times throughout his Hall-of-Fame career, Kershaw escaped the jam.

He struck out De La Cruz, got a popout and struck out Tyler Stephenson to end the frame. And man, did he make it look easy.

Kershaw went back out there for the seventh, where he retired the side in order.

For Kershaw, Thursday was his third start this season with seven scoreless innings and at least nine strikeouts. That number is the most in all of baseball. It was his fifth start this year in which he’s gone at least seven innings and it was his fifth start with at least nine strikeouts.

Thursday was also a historic start for Kershaw, as it was his 63rd career start of 7+ scoreless innings, officially tying Don Sutton for the most in Dodgers history.
