I agree with this and was quite shocked when they left Hudson in with 2 outs. Roberts sticks with the game plan come hell or highwater, but how about a little "gut managing" when the situation calls for it?"

No, you can't know in advance that Knack is going to keep the Yankees scoreless for 4 innings. The whole point of the "punt" day is to essentially give up a game in order to have all your best pitching resources available for the next game. "Gut" managing like that just winds up with over-used and blown arms and both games being half-assed.

well giving up games in a 7 game series is a new concept to me. I’ve been a baseball fan for 35 years and never heard of it. Maybe next time have talent that wasn’t in AAA last week or let your starters go longer than 5 innings.

We would really like to not have to be throwing AAA-quality guys, but in case you haven't noticed we have nearly two whole rotations-worth of quality MLB starters (Glasnow, Kershaw, Gonsolin, May, Sheehan, Ryan, Stone) and two of our best relievers (Evan Phillips and Joe Kelly) on the IR. We're making the best of it, and giving up two games got us through the NLCS no sweat, so I trust Dave.

I agree wholeheartedly. I was amazed with Hudson coming in in the first place but by the time the bases were loaded I was screaming at the tv to bring in Brustar to get out of the inning. By the eighth inning we switched channels. After what happened to Mookie I could not bear the Yankees rubbing our noses in their win. This is New York after all, and between padres fans and New Yorkers I don’t know who is worse.

Agree, he was weird one to call on since we know he’s still good when rested. Graterol’s appearances have been so low stress that it’s confounding he was not the one called on. I even thought he was a candidate to start the first.
